Let's talk potty, shall we...
Its been months (actually closer to a year) since we brought a potty seat home. Remember this post!
At first, double l would try it out, wear it on his head, talk about the potty. Then quickly, he was giving us a flat out "NO" whenever we asked if he had to go potty. Finally mid-December, I put my foot down and potty training started with some consistency. With a chart, stickers and lots of M&Ms in hand we had a few actual pee-pees on the potty and a very proud little boy. But as the week continued, something completely stopped. That would be POOP! Double l went 4 days with no poop and he was in pain. We spoke to the doctor and had to get some medicine. It turns out our little guy freaked himself out a little and would not poop. So we had to stop the training and get back on a regular #2 schedule. We aren't totally there yet, but definitely closer and double l is not in pain any longer.
So, I am asking, begging...
How do I potty train this child without causing major lower GI issues???
I bought a new potty -- Cars -- and he seems excited about it, but who knows. I need some types, because I really don't want to babes in diapers. Oh and as much as I tell people "no worries its not like he'll go to college in diapers"... He is absolutely not going to be able to start Preschool in fall if he is not potty trained.
Help!!!

Oh dear. Brings back nightmares for me. PTing was the hardest part of parenting so far for me (still have the tween years to get to). I have to say bribery worked - my daughter fell for these little tiny plastic princess figures; my son was all about Cars. You can also sneak fiber into his diet so the BM is not so hard. Maybe sit in the bathroom with him and read a book while he goes #2 so it's more relaxing for him.
For my oldest, I just gave him a diaper to do his #2 business, he had already figured out #1. He eventually got rid of the diaper but that's what worked and we avoided the constipation.
Lauren was HORRIBLE in the number 2 dept! We used Miralax to keep her going...it was prescription back then but OC now!!!
hmmm.... can't say that I have much advice to help you in that area. Sorry!
Hoping that maybe he will just be ready now!
i will start by reminding you that every child is different- this being said, two (my first two) had no desire to be p/t until at least 3yrs of age. for the second child, he too had to be trained before school started or he couldn't attend. he too halted all # 2 for days. We also went back to a diaper but for only a short time to allow much needed evacuation. we finally found out that for him he saw poop as messy and did not want to make a mess and get in trouble. we assured him no matter what the mess the poop made that if he got the poop in the toilet we would be so proud and happy with him. (his 3rd bday was in june and by aug he was potty trained, but i made him wear pull-ups while at school in the beginning just incase. i also explained to the director/teachers that he was still new to p/t and they were willing to give him a few weeks to continue to get the hang of it. if you are running close to the start of school and he is still hit or miss with the training, discuss it with the proper people at school they should be willing to help. besides if he sees other kids going potty he may want to use the potty even more.) i had my last two kids in diapers at the same time and it wasn't that big of a deal except the cost. by the way, my 3rd child will be 3 next week and has been trained now for quite sometime- they are all different!
good luck lady!
