update on double l

first and foremost -- thank you for all your kind words! I do appreciate it.

I spoke with double l's doctor this afternoon. needless to say, I so wanted to speak with first thing this morning, but tried my hand at patience only calling her once at 8:30.

at any rate -- here is the verdict

RSV - negative
Pneumonia - X-Ray should no signs
Signs of bronchial flare-up due to allergies -- we have a winner. looks like double l is following in his poppy's footsteps in more than the irish way... my father had awful allergies and so do I (not nearly as bad as my dad).

next steps -- we will continue his current nebulizer treatments, and the doctor would like to introduce singulaire into the routine. after getting off the phone with her, I researched the drug use for toddlers and became concerned with the reported side effects. I have a call back into her so we can discuss it further. has anyone had any experience with the drug (especially experience with toddler use of singulaire)?

besides the use of singulaire, we are meeting in 2 weeks to have double l evaluated again. I brought up claire again, but she dismissed it for now. stating double l's, as often as it seems, symptoms come and go & claire is a consistent. regardless, I just vacuumed, swept and mopped the downstairs (upstairs next on the list). claire's hair is everywhere all the time! UGH! I so love her like a daughter (don't judge), but can not stand her hair. anyway the doctor did say she may want to test him at some point, but really does not want to do any "pricking" right now. and to be honest, I do not want him to go through those allergy pricks now, just to have them repeated when he is three!

as for my little superman -- he is fabulous. laughing, chatting, running all day. it is absolutely beautiful outside and we did have some time outdoors this morning. he is napping now, but I may throw a blanket in his stroller and zoom around the neighborhood when he wakes up.

more on the decision to use or pass on the use of singulaire after I speak with the doctor. but of course your opinion is welcomed and encouraged!

neither of my girls take singular - though I do and I love it but I have side effects as an adult so I would be cautious. My worst one is dry mouth 0 - I am glad is "ok"

Glad you got some answers. We have seasonal allergies. The kids and I take claritin and the kids use nose sprays (flonase and nasonex). Have you considered also using nasal saline drops/spray? That's something our pediatrician suggests even during winter months.

SO!!! happy to hear that LL is okay. And glad to hear that you were able to get results so quickly. Sometimes, not knowing is the hardest part.

Sorry. I have no experience with allergies & no advice to give. Good luck with everything.

Courtney, if you want ask Heather for my number to call me here in AK. I have lots of thoughts and I think we have had some VERY similar experiences with our little ones. Yes, we did try Singulair for about 2 months with Noah, I was nervous too about side effects, but many docotors assured me it is one of the safest meds out there. SO I held out for a while but after an ER-worthy episode in December, I broke down and strted to give it to him to see how it might help him out. To make a long story short it ended up being too mild (and I did not notice any side effects) so now he is on 2x a day pulmicort via neb, just hopefully for winter and he has been doing beautifully!! We also have an arsenal of Albuterol for wheezing episodes and orapred (oral steroid) to avoid ER if we need it, but since Pulimicort we have had no problems!!! We are almost going on 2 months healthy and that was after him being sick almost every other week all fall and winter.

You have to find the right doc and the right med for your babe. The last doc we dealt with, her own kids all had asthma so she really knew her stuff. Have you been to a pediatric asthma/allergy specialist? Like I think I posted before, you CAN do allergy testing now, and they even do it on newborns. The pricking sucks but it only lasts for a second on their back. But you have to stay in the office after for a few hours so they can read the test.

Sorry to go on and on...but I hope double l gets well soon.

I am so glad he is feeling better. My two older ones take Claritin, but just during the spring ragweed season. Sorry, I don't have experience w/Singulaire. I hope you are able to find some good info to make a decision you feel comfortable with!

I'm glad he is feeling better. My son has allergies but hates taking any kind of meds. Thankfully he seems to be growing out of them a little. Although the last couple of evenings he starts complaining of head and stomach aches.. which sometimes indicates allergies with him.
Didn't mean to make this about me :)
